Kate Howser grew up in Southern Oregon listening
to the sounds of her father's bluegrass band, while her much older
siblings were off at the rodeo. Although she longed for a barrel
racing ribbon of her own, she found comfort in the jaunty tunes
of Hoyt Axton and the "country" music (there was no "Americana"
in the 70s!) of Emmylou, Dolly, Willie & Waylon, Doc & Chet,
June & Johnny, and Flatt & Scruggs. |

In the mid '90s, she moved to San Francisco to join the indie rock scene, playing bass and touring in see jane run, Luster, Funhouse (a Stooges tribute band) and currently, The Porch Sitters. Axton Kincaid was born out of a need to turn back to her roots after years of pounding out rock music. She and guitarist/vocalist Jen Daunt (of most previous bands listed) are now Axton Kincaid, a harmony-laden, simple pickin' folk-country-Americana duo based in San Francisco. Q&A Workshop:
