Behind the Scenes - The Carpetbag Brigade

Profile

The Carpetbag Brigade is an eclectic group of poets, acrobats, stiltwalkers, musicians, dancers, merry makers and reality inverters. The group was born in the mountains of northern Arizona and currently resides in the San Francisco Bay area. Influenced by European styles of theatrical composition the Carpetbag Briagde creates its own unique performances drawing from contact improvisation, butoh dance, character study and song. Suspended between myth, ritual and contemporary theater, the Carpetbag Brigade ignites the senses and inspires the imagination.

Workshops: Contact Improvisation
Between physical contact and kinesthetic motion lies the zone of listening, connection and action. This workshop will focus on sensing weight, sharing space, and finding fluidity in the body. Contact improvisation is a form of dance where we find movement in stillness and stillness in movement. Basic techniques of weight sharing, releasing into the ground, and finding the intrinsic bouyancy within the body will be cultivated in this workshop. No previous experience in contact improvisation is necessary. Class will also draw from Authentic movement, spatial dynamics, and somatic practices.
