Behind the Scenes - ELFS

Profile

The Electronic Legion of Feminist Sounds (ELFS) was founded in 2002 by Brooklyn & kEros as a response to the lack of female and feminist DJs in dance culture. ELFS emphasize a non-pretentious approach to DJing where many diverse musical genres are explored. We refuse to play homophobic, racist and/or sexist music. ELFS currently consists of 5 DJs and is based in Humboldt County, California.

At this year's Camp Betty Music & Arts Festival, 3 ELFS will be performing, including: kEros, Brooklyn & Blancatron.

ELFS Mission Statement:

ELFS
  • Foster a supportive environment for
    feminist and/or female performers
  • Promote social change by raising awareness of political and social issues
  • Rebel against the male-dominated world of music by promoting female and/or feminist artists
  • Create activism and community through art and music
  • Encourage other female and/or feminist artists to share their creativity, skills and talent
