Behind the Scenes - Laura Love & Jen Todd

Profile

Laura Love has been touring with a full band for over a decade. She has a huge underground following and is a favorite at folk, world, jazz, blues, reggae and even bluegrass festivals all over North America. She has released nine cds since 1990 on her label, Octoroon Biography, as well as on Rounder/Zoe, KOCH, and industry giant, Mercury Records. In the summer of 2004, Hyperion Books published Laura's memoir, YouAin't Go No Easter Clothes while KOCH simultaneously released Laura's companion CD.

The Laura Love Duo is Laura Love with her bandmate, Jen Todd, performing distilled versions of Laura's band material, some of Jen's well crafted originals and a couple of surprising covers. Two incredible vocals, acoustic guitar, and Laura's funky bass make this duet much more than the sum of its parts.

Laura's wide range of folk/funk/R&B/Appalachian/hip-hop raves and ballads are represented in scale model with the Duo. The result is a potent, rich, espressolike performance that is riveting and quietly powerful. You can hear every word and still, fans jump up and dance to it.

Jen Todd

Jen Todd was a founding member of the legendary Seattle folk/pop band, 3 Track Mind. Laura was a fan of the band and was greatly impressed with Jen's songwriting, her powerful vocals and intricate guitar playing. When Laura was looking for a new bandmate a few years ago, Jen was available and Laura snatched her up. After recording Fourteen Days with the rest of the band, they realized they worked well together as a duo and that the two of them could break into new territory and perform in venues not appropriate for the full band.

Since that time, the Laura Love Duo has headlined at a slew of festivals and clubs throughout the U.S. and Canada and has toured with Patty Larkin, Catie Curtis and Fruit. The Laura Love Band continues to rock on, and the Duo can be found in various nooks and crannies inbetween those gigs.
